دعت «الحملة التضامنية لحماية أهراءات مرفأ بيروت»
إلى وقفةٍ احتجاجية، اليوم الأربعاء الساعة 7 مساءً، احتجاجاً على عدم تحرّك المعنيّين لإخماد الحريق المندلع في أكوام القمح والركام أمام الجزء الشمالي من مبنى الأهراءات.
وقد استغلّت الحملة هذه الحادثة المُريبة لتجديد الدعوة إلى العودة عن قرار هدم الأهراءات، والمباشرة في تدعيمها، عوضاً عن إهمال محيط المبنى- للمرّة الثانية- والتسبّب بكوارث جديدة.
بالمقابل، ردّ مدير عام مرفأ بيروت عمر عيتاني سبب الدخّان والنار إلى «القمح المخمّر» والحرارة، واعتبر أنّه «لا يمكن السماح للدفاع المدنيّ بالاقتراب من المكان لأنّه غير آمن، وتحتاج عملية الإطفاء إلى آليّة معقّدة»، فيما تزايدت شكاوى أهالي المنطقة من الرائحة المنبعثة من الحريق.

The Solidarity Campaign to Protect the Beirut Port Silos called for a vigil today, Wednesday, at 7 pm, to protest the relevant officials' failure to extinguish a fire that broke out in the mounds of wheat and rubble in front of the northern part of the silos building.
The campaign cited the suspicious incident as it renewed its call to reverse the decision to demolish the silos, and to reinforce them instead of neglecting the building’s perimeter –again–, and causing new disasters.
The Director General of the Beirut port, Omar Itani, said that the smoke and fire resulted from the “fermented wheat” lying in the heat. He argued that “the Civil Defense can't be allowed to approach the area because it is not safe, and extinguishing the fire requires a complex procedure.” Meanwhile, residents of the area are increasingly complaining of the fumes emanating from the fire.
